WEDNESDAY,
JUNE 18 - DELAWARE WATER GAP NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
We
will hike with our dogs to the top of 1,527-foot Mt. Tammany
on a rocky, twisting trail. For our effort we will purchase gigantic
views across the Gap. Our return will be down the backside of
the mountain through blossoming mountain laurel and into Dunnfield
Hollow on an old logging road beside the quick-paced Dunnfield
Creek. This is a 4-hour hike.
For lunch we will go to Van Campens Glen for a picnic lunch (pack
your own) and cool down with an easy hike to a welcoming waterfall.
Directions:
The parking lot is at the rest area off I-80 on the New Jersey
side of the Delaware River. From the east on I-80, exit at the
rest area in the Gap. Drive past the rest area parking lot and
pull into the circular parking lot just past it around the corner.
From the west on I-80 cross the Delaware River (toll bridge)
and make your first exit to the right into the Visitor Center.
Drive through the lot and make the left under the highway. Make
a left and quick right into the lot.

FRIDAY,
JULY 4 - NEW JERSEY PINELANDS, APPLE PIE HILL
We
will go the four miles from the Carranza Memorila to the high
point of the New Jersey Pine Barrens at 209 feet, Apple Pie Hill.
This is mostly a paw-friendly sand trail under millions of pine
trees. If the wild blueberries are out there will be plenty to
gobble on along the way.
Directions:
From the intersection of Route 70 and US 206 west of Medford,
go south on 206. Bear left on Carranza Road and go through the
crossroads town of Tabernacle. The Carranza Memorial and parking
will be on the right.
