News and Notes: Fun Hike Scheduled; Bad News at Watch Hill; DOGGIN' AMERICA'S BEACHES now available; Fall Tours Scheduled

***If you are in the Philadelphia area on Sunday July 29 at 9:00 a.m. and want to join other dog owners for an outing at one of the best places to hike with your dog within an hour's drive of Philly come out to the 420-acre-Monocacy Hill Recreation Area. We'll climb to the top of the 680-foot summit where there are excellent views of the Schuylkill River Valley and the Monocacy Creek Valley. Every step of the way we'll be under the cool shade of a mixed forest - on paths that are unusually wide for a woodland. There is no cost to join in this hike. Monocacy Hill is off Route 422, between Pottstown and Reading.  West of the intersection with Route 662, turn north on Limekiln Road. Make your first right to end at Geiger Road. Turn right to the parking lot up the hill on the right...

***This email we received is worth passing along from the Yanko family: "We live in CT, which does not have dog-friendly beaches (for that matter, not very people friendly either), but we have always taken our two Labs to Watch Hill Beach in nearby RI. Well, we took the 90 minutes drive today, only to find out that they are now patrolling and enforcing a no-dog policy! We were on the beach less than an hour when a security guard driving a dune buggy came up and told us we had to leave. We have been bringing our 12 year old dog to this beach since she was a baby, there were always other dogs there also, and no one ever had a problem with it. In addition to that it's a beautiful beach for people. We are very saddened to think that we are losing the one place we could bring our "girls" (we also have a 6 year old Lab) to run in the sand and chase tennis balls in the surf." This is a great little beach and a loss for dog lovers...
